6-mo Checkup Results

Posted by cassie on Wednesday, 21 February, 2007 @ 8:32 am

So it turns out that Anthony is a little chunker. He weighed in at a healthy 19 lbs! No wonder my arm starts hurting after carting him around in the store for awhile. The pediatrician didn’t seem concerned about his weight so I guess I shouldn’t be either but I’m going to try to cut his food intake a little bit more and make him exercise to the limited extent that he can. Since he is now sitting up (mostly unassisted) he should stabilize his weight a bit. I know the jump in weight is from feeding him cereal and baby food, which we started at around 5 months.

His head circumference was 17 1/2 inches and he was in the 50th percentile for height so our little darling is doing great!

I actually thought ahead this time and gave him some Ibuprofen before we went to the doctor so he didn’t get that fever and major pain of the past visits. And he actually slept a little bit afterwards!

6 Mo Check Up

Posted by cassie on Saturday, 17 February, 2007 @ 9:57 pm

6 mo oldAnthony is due for his 6 month check up soon. Man o man do I hope the wee little guy sleeps afterwards. If it’s anything like the 4 month check up he will be stuck full of needles, and then not sleep a wink after we leave. This time I’m going to give him some infant Ibuprofen before we go in to see if that helps. Cross your fingers for me!

Mom Gives Birth in Pants

Posted by cassie on Friday, 16 February, 2007 @ 10:22 pm

Now this story is hard for me to believe since I’m sure she had to have had some pain in the whole process but I just had to laugh when I heard it while driving down the road yesterday.

24-year old Rebecca Johnson had her baby Wednesday in the parking lot of the Highlands Hospital — in her pants. Despite intense contractions, she made it to the hospital safely, only to give birth before she could actually make it in the door.

“I didn’t know what happened until he was in my pant leg,” said Rebecca. That is an incredible sentence.

Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y. in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is voluntarily recalling their “Laugh and Learn” Learning Bunny Toys. These toys feature a pink pompom nose which can detach from the toy, posing a choking hazard.

The toys being recalled is a 10-inch tall “Laugh and Learn” Learning Bunny. The product numbers being recalled are: K0468, K2960, K2961, K2962, K2963, K2964, K2965, K3440, K6898, K7884, L0327, and K5862. Infant Ibuprofen

Posted by cassie on Friday, 16 February, 2007 @ 10:06 pm

So I was in Walmart the other day getting another bottle of the baby Tylenol and was delightfully surprised to see that there is a Ibuprofen that is geared towards infants 6 months and up. I was always a little hesitant to give Anthony the Tylenol because I’m allergic to the active ingredient (acetaminophen) so this makes me feel a ton better. Just thought I’d pass that on if you aren’t aware of it.

Baptism RSVPs Due Monday

Posted by cassie on Friday, 16 February, 2007 @ 9:57 pm

Why is it when you do a family event and you only receive RSVP responses from like 2 people? Just because you are family doesn’t mean that you don’t have to respond! In fact you should want to respond even more simply because you know the effort involved in what is going on. Now I have the dilemma of trying to figure out how much food to prepare and no head count to do it with. I know for sure that 5 people will be there - 2 friends, Nick, myself and an Aunt that responded (Thanks Aunt Virginia).

I may be prematurely kvetching since the RSVP date is the 19th but jeez. I really do hope that I start getting responses soon. Everyone always says well if they don’t RSVP and show up it’s their fault. Yea sounds good in theory but you left feeling like the heel since you don’t have enough food, wine, etc. for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Peanut Butter & Salmonella

Posted by cassie on Thursday, 15 February, 2007 @ 2:49 pm

In an article on CNN today Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter beginning with the code 2111 is being recalled. There is a potential that it may contain salmonella.

CNN Article
ConAgra Foods News Release

If you have any of this peanut butter in your house I urge you to discard it immediately. They will reimburse you if you send the lids to the address mentioned in the ConAgra news release. Even if you just throw it away and don’t go for the reimbursement your and your children’s health is worth it! Unfortunately I am one of the people that have PB with the 2111 # stamped on the lid. I will be throwing it away immediately (after I remove the lids of course).

Pampers Points (Gifts to Grow) Program

Posted by cassie on Thursday, 15 February, 2007 @ 2:41 pm

I’m not sure if you all are aware but Pampers has extended their Points program until March 2008. If you are purchasing Pampers be sure to login to their website and enter the code on the package - wipes, diapers, refills, etc. Depending on the product you get anywhere from .5 - 3 points, which add up quickly. You can then redeem them for food, toys, picture sittings, and much more.

Now that sounds like a promo if I’ve ever heard one but honestly the program is a great idea and if you are already purchasing their products you mines well get something in return! I’ve been doing it and now have 40.5 points which isn’t bad since I’ve tried other diapers and wipes along the way. Call me biased but I still lean towards Pampers thou.

O! and if you join the program you also get coupons in the mail (and a little booklet based on your babies age with development stages and tips in it) so be sure to either use them or pass them onto someone else that can. Homeless shelters and foster programs are good places to give them to just to name a few.

Parent Baptism Class

Posted by cassie on Wednesday, 14 February, 2007 @ 8:16 pm

Well we attended our class on Monday and it really didn’t teach us much. The instructor explained that the Catholic church is trying to change and basically modernize itself so they are now allowing single mothers to baptize their children, etc. That was interesting to know. They also suggested we go to http://www.saints.org and check out the various saints to select his patron saint. I’m still not entirely sure what that all means but figured I would do the wikipedia look up to learn more. Gotta love those things :)

There was a horribly annoying woman in class that was taking up waaay to much time asking questions and comparing it to her country and its religion. She never did state what either were for that matter. I didn’t mind her asking questions since most of the rest of us weren’t but she kept asking inane questions that had nothing to do with the ceremony and ones that would have to be answered by the priest or deacon presiding over her particular ceremony. I mean she wanted to know if she could have some holy oil. The poor instructor was doing his best to field the questions but he finally gave in and said he would give her a # to call to have her questions answered. We then watched a 20 minute video that was about 20 years old (think boo-font 80s hair dos with shoulder pads) that did an overview of the ceremony and showed what baptizing their children meant to the participants.

After we finished we turned in Anthony’s paperwork and will now be on file for when we go to get him baptized. Cool!

Valentine’s Day and Baby

Posted by cassie on Saturday, 10 February, 2007 @ 9:27 pm

V Day is just around the corner and normally we do something for it. We try to stay away from going out to eat in the traditional sense since everyone else is doing it and it kinda ruins it for us. We’ve done picnics in the living room & on the back porch (don’t recommend doing them in a real park in FL - red ants are not your friend), walks in the park, and other alternatives instead.

Well this is the first year we have our little darling (who is currently teething so darling is stretching it quite a bit) so now what?! I would still like to honor the day for what it is intended - making us stop and appreciate one another (that’s my version of its intent anyway). There is a grocery store in our area that is offering a nice package meal for around $25 that includes prime rib, potato, salad and bread. I think that will be a win-win for all of us. And bonus for me - I don’t have to cook any more than pressing the reheat button on the microwave.
