Anthony’s first birthday is coming all too soon! So I started searching online for the ooo so fun baby’s first cake!! I’m trying not to be an obsessive mom and not spazz over the foods he eats but I can’t help it. I want him to have an established good diet before junk gets introduced. Especially in this day and age of obesity. And since some people feel the way to show affection is to feed you I want him to go for the healthier choices not the sugary ones. I hope!
So I’ve gone on a search for a cake recipe that has little to no sugar and preferably will allow wheat flour or something along those lines. In that vein I’ve found a few sites so far that I thought I’d share just in case others share my views.

When Anthony was 2 months old I put a pair of socks on him that were too tight on his chubby little legs and on one leg left a red mark. As soon as I saw it I whipped those socks off and tossed them in the trash and put neosporin on the boo-boo. Well it didn’t work and now the poor little guy has a raised mark on his leg. So watch out for too tight socks! I don’t want you to have to tell your darling in your efforts to keep them warm you’ve scarred them for life like I did.
I went on a sock hunting adventure after that and bought several different types. I guess because he has chubby legs and blocks for feet he has trouble with the regular socks. They make ankle socks for babies 6 - 18 mo and they work great for him. I found the ones he wears at Wal-mart but I’m sure Target carries them also. The Children’s Place also carries socks that are chenille (well they look like it anyway) which work great too, but are a tad bit more expensive and only come in 3 colors.

Anthony went in for his 8 month check-up on Friday and is moving along nicely in his development. He now weighs 20 lb 14 oz and is 27 1/4 inches long. He also had his last Hepatitis B vaccine.
Nick and I had a bet going on what he would weigh and I guess I win even though we were both wrong. Nick thought he was around 25 lb and I was rooting for 22 lb. I’m glad to see that his little growth spurt has slowed down but I think it is due more to him moving more
than eating less because he LOVES to eat.

FRIDAY, April 13 (HealthDay News) — A 36-year-old California woman has given birth to the first baby in the United States to be conceived using a frozen egg and frozen sperm.
Adrienne Domasin gave birth to Noah Peter Domasin (8 pounds, 4 ounces) at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, Calif., the Associated Press reported.
While there have been about 200 documented births from frozen eggs worldwide, the only other birth from a frozen egg and frozen sperm took place in Australia. That birth was reported last year in the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics.
Domasin decided to take part in the California study after she learned two years ago that her fallopian tubes were blocked. She was unable to afford in-vitro fertilization but was determined to have a baby, the AP reported.
After eggs were harvested from Domasin, they were frozen for four months, then injected with thawed donor sperm. A fertilized egg was then placed inside Domasin.
The freezing of sperm has been done for decades but attempts to use frozen eggs have a low success rate, the AP reported.

I was surfing the web this morning and came across a website on organic baby mattresses which spawned this post. If you are on the look-out for a mattress and have the extra money to spend consider purchasing an organic or cotton mattress. They have lower emissions and are healthier for your baby. But the serious drawback is the $$$. Check out this site for more information.
If you can’t afford (or just plain don’t want to afford) this type of mattress consider purchasing the mattress before your bundle arrives and letting it emit in the babies room all by it’s lonesome. The price of these specialty mattresses were out of my league so I made sure to buy a regular one while Anthony was still sleeping in his bassinet in our room and let everything air out in his. And trust me - the mattress and his crib did stink! It took probably 3 or 4 days before you could walk in there without getting knocked over by the smell. I just left the window open and let the smells drift away on the breeze after that.
