Food Recall

Announced June 28, 2007

Robert’s Veggie Booty is recalled

WASHINGTON, June 28 (UPI) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the nationwide recall of Veggie Booty Snack Food because of possible bacterial contamination. Robert’s American Gourmet Food Inc. of Sea Cliff, N.Y., initiated the recall because the food might be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Robert’s American Gourmet Veggie Booty was distributed across the United States and Canada through local distributors, internet sales, phone orders, mail orders and retail outlets.

Veggie Booty is sold in a flexible plastic foil bag in 4 oz., 1 oz., and 1/2 oz. packages. All sizes, codes and expiration dates are being recalled.

The FDA said 51 cases of salmonella across 17 states were related to the consumption of the Veggie Booty, predominately in children 3 years of age or younger.

Snack Traps

Posted by cassie on Thursday, 28 June, 2007 @ 8:00 am

I don’t know if many of you have seen those handy little gadgets known as snap traps hanging from strollers but I wanted to pass along that Burlington Coat Factory has them for $3.99 a piece. They work great on strollers that don’ t have trays since you can attach them using the rings and they can hang from the side, and in the car for all our little self-feeders out there.

How it works - they can reach their hands in through the lid but even when turned upside down no (or very minimal) food will fall out. You can check out www.snacktrap.com to see what I mean.

Disposable Placemats

Posted by cassie on Wednesday, 27 June, 2007 @ 8:06 am

I was in Big Lots in Sarasota, FL earlier this week and they has a 20 pack of disposable placemats by Munchkin for $2! They are the kind that you can peel off sticky tape on the back to adhere them to the table. Great to take out to restaurants to keep the kids from eating off a germy table or anywhere else you may be concerned about.

I haven’t used them yet since I bought Anthony a Fisher-Price portable highchair to take to grandmas and out to eat but for that price I couldn’t pass them up! If anything I’ll use them as baby shower gifts or something.

BTW the highchair is totally awesome and I recommended it highly. They are priced anywhere from $22 - $24 in all major stores (Target, Walmart, Burlington Coat Factory) and folds up very compactly. I carry mine in the trunk so when we are out and about I’m always prepared.

Handy Baby Hints

Posted by cassie on Thursday, 21 June, 2007 @ 8:06 pm

 1. Baby Nails: dip your baby`s fingers in some baby powder when you want to cut his/her nails; the white layer will indicate precisely where you should cut the nails.

2. Cleaning bottoms Cheaply: if you go on holiday take a spray bottle, fill it with one part of baby shampoo and ten parts of water; use it to clean your baby`s bottom during nappy change; it is cheep and will leave a pleasant smell!
3. Cooling Porridge: if the porridge that you prepare for your baby is to hot, simply stir an ice cube in to quickly cool it off.
4. Bottle Cleaning: to get your baby`s bottle really clean pop a spoon of uncooked rice into it, fill it half-way with warm water and shake well; it will remove all dirt clinging on the inside.
5. Play Dough: make your own play dough for you child by mixing equal quantities of cake flour and salt with water, add some food colouring (store in sealed plastic containers or bags).
6. Secure Pillow: put your baby`s pillow under the fitted sheet to prevent it from slipping around during the night.

Noggin Dolls

Posted by cassie on Thursday, 14 June, 2007 @ 8:43 am

So if your little one is anything like mine (and millions of others out there) they are in love with the Noggin hosts - Moose A. Moose and Zee. I did a search for the dolls and apparently they are not *officially* made. UHHHH! HUGE opportunity here Noggin.

Anyway! I found a lady that is making them herself and you can add your name and email address to her list and possibly get one (or both) created in time for Christmas. I don’t know the cost yet but if you want to know more here’s a link

Polish authorities probing if Teletubbies are gay

Posted by cassie on Wednesday, 6 June, 2007 @ 11:02 am

Poland’s child rights ombudsman said on Monday she was investigating whether ‘The Teletubbies,’ the British television show for infants, promotes homosexuality. ‘It would be good for a group of psychologists to talk to children about this. We need to examine this. If inappropriate attitudes have been promoted, we need to react,’ said Ewa Sowinska.
