First Dentist Trip

images.jpegInfant’s New Teeth

The primary, or “baby,” teeth play a crucial role in dental development. Without them, a child cannot chew food properly and has difficulty speaking clearly. Primary teeth are vital to development of the jaws and for guiding the permanent (secondary) teeth into place when they replace the primary teeth around age six.

Since primary teeth guide the permanent teeth into place, infants with missing primary teeth, or infants who prematurely lose primary teeth may require a space maintainer, a device used to hold the natural space open. Without a maintainer, the teeth can tilt toward the empty space and cause permanent teeth to come in crooked. Missing teeth should always be mentioned to your family dentist. The way your child cares for his/her primary teeth plays a critical role in how he/she treats the permanent teeth. Children and adults are equally susceptible to plaque and gum problems—hence the need for regular care and dental checkups.

A Child’s First Dental Visit

A child’s first dental visit should be scheduled around his/her first birthday. The most important part of the visit is getting to know and becoming comfortable with a doctor and his staff. A pleasant, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future dental visits. If possible, allow the child to sit in a parent’s lap in the exam room. Children should be encouraged to discuss any fears or anxiety they feel.

Cheap Pregnancy Tests

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Medical, Tips, Hints & Other Stuff

It’s official we’re working on baby #2 ;) Of course, the dreaded part of this is buying those overly priced pregnancy tests. Since I didn’t have pregnancy symptoms with Anthony I can’t rely on those as an indicator so I HAVE to buy those tests. I did find some really killer deals on eBay.com but easier for me was ….. drum roll… going to the $1 store.

Not only does Dollar General carry them at two-price points of $1 and $4 now the Dollar Tree $1 Stores are carrying inexpensive pregnancy tests!! “Yes!”, woman everywhere are collectively screaming. They are the type that you have to pee in a cup but I’d rather do that than pay oodles of $$ for the same thing anywhere else. And before you ask, of course they are a $1. One caveat, you may have to try several stores since when I was there I bought the place out and I bet others will too.

Eggs in Recipes

eggsYou aren’t supposed to feed your infant eggs before 12 months but I’ve been finding it harder and harder to find stuff for Anthony to eat now that he only wants finger foods. So I did some research and found out that you don’t have to put eggs in certain recipes, especially baked goods.

I tested out a few cakes for his upcoming 1st birthday and used 1/4 applesauce instead per egg. (Warning: the applesauce does make it a little denser so if you want to avoid this you can also add 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.) They came out delicious! I’ll post the recipes in a little bit for other moms who want to hold off on certain allergy-related foods!

Stroller Snack Tray

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Gear

The girls from exercise class and I have been trying to find a snack tray that attaches to the front of strollers that don’t have one – think Combi as one example.

I figured I’d pass this along for everyone else… Several of the girls bought it so I’ll let you know their thoughts as soon as I hear.

I was surfing eBay (big surprise there) and found this snack tray that
works by attaching to the front bar. Out of all of them this one seems
like it would work the best.
