Recalled: Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. Magnetic Toys
Mon, Mar 17, 2008 (BabyCenter News)  Mega Brands has announced a recall of about 1.1 million Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. preschool magnetic toys in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The company also recalled 1.3 million magnetic toy action figures today.
Small magnets inside the toys can detach and be swallowed or breathed in by young children. If multiple magnets are swallowed, the magnets may attract one another inside the body and cause intestinal tears or blockages, which can be fatal. Mega brands has received 19 reports of magnets detaching, including one report of an 18-month-old who chewed on, but did not swallow, one of the magnets.
The Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. toys include small, flexible animals, vehicles, and building sets embedded with magnets that allow the child to connect these parts to large, colored metal balls. The model number is printed on the front of the product’s packaging. See the chart below for more details
