Staten Island Teen Vindicated

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Ramblings

The asshole that killed my nephew has officially been termed guilty!! I’ve tried hard not to write about this because I know how things get about on the net and didn’t want to influence anything with my ramblings BUT I am so glad this is the official decision! There is a lot of hearsay and whatnot involved, as there is with any murder and luckily the jury saw through it and the roadblocks thrown in their path. I hope this guy rots in jail for the full term and then some.

Read the news report here.

RIP Robbie. We love you always!

Recalled Easter Egg Toys

Just when you thought a holiday was safe!

Recalled: Easter egg toys

Fri, Mar 21, 2008 (BabyCenter News) — Hobby Lobby has announced a recall of about 13,000 camouflage eggs and spinning egg tops in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Paint on the toy eggs contains excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal lead paint standard. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause serious health effects.

The camouflage egg set includes eight eggs painted in white, brown, and green camouflage colors. Item #1031 is printed on the front of the packaging. The words “Made in China for Tony Development and Mfg Ltd; TST, Kin, HK” and UPC code 43078 01031 are printed on the back of the packaging.

Magnetic Toys Recalled

Recalled: Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. Magnetic Toys

Mon, Mar 17, 2008 (BabyCenter News) — Mega Brands has announced a recall of about 1.1 million Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. preschool magnetic toys in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The company also recalled 1.3 million magnetic toy action figures today.

Small magnets inside the toys can detach and be swallowed or breathed in by young children. If multiple magnets are swallowed, the magnets may attract one another inside the body and cause intestinal tears or blockages, which can be fatal. Mega brands has received 19 reports of magnets detaching, including one report of an 18-month-old who chewed on, but did not swallow, one of the magnets.

The Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. toys include small, flexible animals, vehicles, and building sets embedded with magnets that allow the child to connect these parts to large, colored metal balls. The model number is printed on the front of the product’s packaging. See the chart below for more details

Just Between Friends Online Sale

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Sales, Coupons & Contests

Below is a post I found on a forum that I frequent. This is a great idea and a wonderful way to move out the old stuff and in with the new! Only problem for me – it’s not in my area :(

The “Just Between Friends” spring/summer consignment sales are happening soon!

The sales are held only 2x a year and are full of fabulous bargains. The prices are super! I sold my crib last fall and it was gone the first night. Save a lot of time from driving around to garage sales and check out this sale first! Some sales are smaller, filling up gyms, others are in convention centers!

How it works: Moms register online and then price their own things, and they have online barcoding that is really easy. You price and earn 70% on your items! Sales even have early presale shopping privileges for consignors, volunteers and first time moms so you can get the best deals first!

You can get to all the sales from the one website: jbfsale.com

Sand Castle for Keeps

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Arts & Crafts for Toddlers

If your kids love sand castles and don’t want to leave the beach – create one for keeps!

You will need:

3 cups of sand (play sand or beach)

1-½ cups of cornstarch

1-½ cups of water

Newspaper

Old cooking pot

Large spoon
Sandcastle molds (optional)

Mix the cornstarch and sand together in the pot, and then add water. An adult will need to cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly. When it gets thick, take it off the stove and allow it to cool to touch. Turn onto newspaper and create any desired shape. Decorate with shells, stones, beads, etc. (optional). Allow to dry and keep forever!

Get really creative and try this with the colored play sand available at any of your local mega marts and home supply stores. Great for class projects, girl (or boy) scout troops, sleep-overs, etc. Make a whole village – one per kid! Another good idea – make a Christmas-time village FL style. After all, our Santa wears sunglasses and bermuda shorts doesn’t he?

Free Sun-Maid Recipe Booklet

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Food & Recipes

Sunmaid Fall Favorites RecipesA FREE copy of a new recipe booklet from Gooseberry Patch: Fall Favorites with Sun-Maid Raisins & Dried Fruit is available now. You can also request the Gooseberry Patch Family Favorite Recipes but will have to fill out the form twice since they won’t let you request both at the same time. I’m not sure why this new recipe booklet is coming out in Spring rather than Fall, but anything that can potentially get more fruits into my family I’m game to try.
