Backseat Organization

Posted by cassie on Friday, 27 June, 2008 @ 8:09 pm

backseat_toyboxI came across this great post at Car & Caboodle on a backseat organization system that can be strapped in with a seatbelt. With 2 boys sitting back there, clutter control will be a huge thing soon. Ok, it is already really. I like that it uses a seatbelt to hold i in place and the prints are rather cute too. Only downfall I see so far is that there are currently none in stock for me to buy :( Continue checking out this WAHM’s Etsy site for further info. Bonus: made in the USA too.

Britax Car Seats 15% Off

Posted by cassie on Tuesday, 24 June, 2008 @ 9:30 pm

This is almost like a pre-fall sale, but great if you need to buy a seat now. I can’t say for sure what the prices will be but based on what I’ve read you can expect to pay ~ $20 more for a seat at this time than what you will in the fall sale. Again, this is based on conjuncture and what the prices were during the spring sale, which I unfortunately missed.

* I’m still in the process of compiling my list, so I’ll add the websites & prices tomorrow.

And, of course, this couldn’t come at a better time for me since I need to get a new seat for one of the boys. I’m still on the fence if I should upgrade Anthony to a Marathon and give the Roundabout to Vince or if I should just buy another Roundabout. I guess part of my decision will be based on price :D Based on FL law, I could go either way with using a booster seat when the time comes. HOWEVER (hold your horses before you blow a gasket) based on my personal beliefs - they will be in boosters!

According to Florida`s car seat law (http://www.dot.state.fl.us/safety/HighwaySafetyGrantProgram):

  • All children 5 years of age or younger must be properly restrained no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle.
  • Children through age 3 must be secured in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer’s integrated child safety seat.
  • For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used.

Therefore, under the Florida car seat law, children over 3 years old may ride in a vehicle using a standard adult safety belt. (ACK!) The problem with this (according to advocates) is that most children under 80 pounds are too small for an adult seat belt. Adult seat belts can actually be dangerous to children because the belt cuts directly across their neck instead of snug across the center of their shoulder. This can lead to serious injury or even death in the event of an accident.

So what`s a parent to do? Car seat safety advocates recommend one of the following guidelines:

  • The National Highway Safety Administration (NHSA) recommends that children over 40 pounds use a belt-positioning booster seat until they are 8 years old, unless they are 4`9″ or taller.
  • The American Academy of Pediatricians goes a bit further and advocates for booster seat use until the child reaches 4`9″ in height and is between 8 and 12 years of age.

The CareGivers Marketplace

Posted by cassie on Monday, 23 June, 2008 @ 8:26 pm

Recently I came across a website that helps caregivers receive money back on certain products - if they keep their receipts and turn them in by a certain date. Huggies, Pullups and Overnights are on there so I was thinking “score”! Unfortunately the only approved retail location in my area is Kmart and they are no where near my normal stomping ground :( I’ll keep checking back to see if they add any more stores in my area.

Be sure to check out the site and see if it works for you!

Babystyle Stores Closing

Posted by cassie on Monday, 23 June, 2008 @ 6:44 pm

Below is a post thanks to a really great mama on the StrollerSwap Yahoo Board:

Babystyle at the Westchester in White Plains is closing. Right now clothing is 75% and gear is 50%. Today they still had lots of maternity clothes, and LOTS of Bug stuff.

As of today, they had (prices are with the discount) several New Native Carrier slings - didn’t look too closely at these, but they were all black. No idea how much, sorry!

1 red Bee parasol ($20)
1 Bee breezy ($20)
several Bee sunshades ($12.50)
*note, 1 breezy and 1 sunshade will fit in a regular USPS envelope
to ship and they weigh practically nothing
3 pink fleece tailored sets ($35)
lots of canvas sets, including brown, red and pink ($50)
2 black Bee nests ($50)
1 red Bee nest ($50)
2 navy Frog footmuffs ($65)
grey footmuff ($65)
travel bag ($80)

Oh, and the salesgirl said all the east coast and midwest stores are closing except NJ - for now anyway.

Toddler Wetting Bed Update

Posted by cassie on Saturday, 21 June, 2008 @ 7:32 am

Yesterday, I ordered several crib pads from Target.com on the suggestion of a friend. One of them has ties that go around the four corners of the bed and snaps into place for easy night changes and the other type is just a pad that you lay on top of the sheet. I’ll let you know if either of these work better for us than the other.

Also, the past two nights we’ve put him in a 2-piece jammie set that allows him easy access and two nights ago he did wet himself but not as bad and last night he didn’t at all! We’re using the Huggies Overnights with this setup. Maybe this will be the solution that I’ve been searching for until he finds something else interesting to do at night.

It seems he plays with himself out of comfort and I know he is stressed right now with the new baby so we shall see how this all plays out. I’m just glad to know there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, since one of the moms I spoke with said her son stopped after four months.

Here’s a link of other parents discussing the same issues with their kids. Good luck!

Wayside GardensRoses, How I love thee! Especially when it’s buy 1, get 2 free ;)

And I have a very handy mom that can actually grow roses from bareroot. So far, I’ve only killed them. But she’s promised to help me plant them so…I’m getting them. I’m dying to have a rose garden! My lovelies are coming from Wayside Garden and they have a really great selection for my zone (9-10), which is hard to find. Wish me luck!

Free Samples

Posted by cassie on Wednesday, 18 June, 2008 @ 8:31 pm

I admit it! I’m suffering from the shop-a-holic bug and can’t go out just yet w/ Vince (just now a week old). So what’s a girl to do? Sample shop! Oxymoron I know but the phrase says it best. I’ve been signing up for various samples recently, all set to start arriving in my mail box any day now and it’s really given me something to look forward to.

Here are some of the sites I’ve stumbled across, if you want to join in my sampling foray!

Let me know of any other sites you use and I’ll add them to my list :)
