Baby Monitor

Posted by cassie on Wednesday, 9 July, 2008 @ 9:57 pm

Horrors! Imagine it - you walk into your room, flip on the monitor and check the video only to see a black screen! You know it’s working because you hear your darling gossiping with himself but can’t see his cute-as-a-button face. That happened to me last night. I never realized how much I LOVED the video option on my Summer Infant handheld video monitor until I didn’t have it. Luckily I bought the TV monitor version of it at Thanksgiving when they had them at Big Lots for $40. Yes, it was supposed to be setup for #2 but yea… Unfortunately it screws up the sound - or maybe I just don’t know what I’m doing so I have the handheld going for sound and the TV for sight. I guess I can’t complain since I bought the handheld unit used 2 years ago but dang it! Now I have to go hunting for another one.

Wish me luck.

Happy July 4th!

The title says it all. Have a safe and fun holiday. We’ll be spending the day relaxing with the boys at home since it is god awful hot out and neither of them do well in the heat.

Toddler Wetting Bed Update

Posted by cassie on Saturday, 21 June, 2008 @ 7:32 am

Yesterday, I ordered several crib pads from Target.com on the suggestion of a friend. One of them has ties that go around the four corners of the bed and snaps into place for easy night changes and the other type is just a pad that you lay on top of the sheet. I’ll let you know if either of these work better for us than the other.

Also, the past two nights we’ve put him in a 2-piece jammie set that allows him easy access and two nights ago he did wet himself but not as bad and last night he didn’t at all! We’re using the Huggies Overnights with this setup. Maybe this will be the solution that I’ve been searching for until he finds something else interesting to do at night.

It seems he plays with himself out of comfort and I know he is stressed right now with the new baby so we shall see how this all plays out. I’m just glad to know there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, since one of the moms I spoke with said her son stopped after four months.

Here’s a link of other parents discussing the same issues with their kids. Good luck!

Roses

Wayside GardensRoses, How I love thee! Especially when it’s buy 1, get 2 free ;)

And I have a very handy mom that can actually grow roses from bareroot. So far, I’ve only killed them. But she’s promised to help me plant them so…I’m getting them. I’m dying to have a rose garden! My lovelies are coming from Wayside Garden and they have a really great selection for my zone (9-10), which is hard to find. Wish me luck!

It’s Been a Wild Ride!

Posted by cassie on Sunday, 15 June, 2008 @ 8:40 pm

vincentAs I’m sure you’ve noticed I haven’t posted much this week. Please forgive me but I’ve been super busy. You see - Vince arrived!! And what a cutie patootie he is too.

Here’s the dits:

It was a quick paced delivery that had the water breaking yesterday, 6/11 at 7a, arriving at SMH between 8-8:30 fully effaced, and Vince arrived at 10:54a as a natural birth.

Drum roll….. Vince weighs in at 9 lb 11 oz, 21 inches. We’re doing great and are already home (6/12). Nick has nick-named him “hit man” because he is a chubby little thing. I think he looks like a bulldog puppy and I mean that in the best sense. I LOVE bulldogs. Cute, wrinkly little faces. His features look a lot like Anthony but he hasn’t opened his eyes enough to see a color yet.

Toddler Wetting Bed

Posted by cassie on Friday, 6 June, 2008 @ 7:26 am

My DS is 21 months old and “discovered” himself several months ago. We had a problem with him walking around with his hand in his pants for awhile but he’s since learned that you do this in your room or in private, that other people don’t want to see it. We also switched him to using only Pampers (instead of Luvs during the day/Pampers at night) and this seemed to have helped as well.

Fast forward to about a month ago and he is now playing with himself at night which leads to him wetting the bed because he either moves his diaper or pulls his penis out.

We’ve tried putting him in onesie pjs, Huggies Overnight diapers, Pampers pull-ups, etc to see if this would help with the issue and it hasn’t. We even switched his bubble bath to Burt’s Bees to reduce the possibility that it was soap making him itchy (he’s uncircumcised) and washing him down with clean water before coming out of the tub. While we are discussing it with him that he needs to go pee pee in the potty or his diaper not his bed, I don’t really think he is getting it. It seems as though he is holding it until morning though because when I go and get him he is freshly wet and very upset over the fact. My mom has suggested working on potty training but I don’t know if that will reduce or add to my troubles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Washing his blankets and bedding AND making the bed up again every day is beyond a pain for me and an embarrassment to him.

I’ve posted this on several forums and heard back from a couple of moms that their sons have done this too. Interestingly enough the ones that have written back to me have said their sons are uncircumcised too. I don’t know if there is a corolation between the two but something to think about.

Diaper Bag for Toddler & Newborn

Posted by cassie on Tuesday, 3 June, 2008 @ 7:04 pm

Just when I was finally getting used to carrying a smaller diaper bag, I now have to go to a LARGER one. Figures, right? Amazingly enough it is like finding a needle in a haystack or so far it has been for me. I know it needs to be larger since I’ll have twice the amt of stuff including a change of clothes for the newborn and a shirt for myself, plus the additional diapers, etc. It also has to not be a cavernous bag that you would fall into and lose yourself. Notice the dilemma! Also, I’ve noticed in my search that a lot of bags have black interiors. I’m sure it’s to show less dirt but imagine hunting through that for your stuff with 2 kids in tow. Ick!

So in the name of organization I bought two sets of Sugar Booger Clean/Dirty bags to help with the clothing issue (especially since we are beginning potty training with our toddler) and I carry a small wristlet for my personal items such as DL, credit cards, etc. My cell I keep in my pocket and my keys go in an outside pocket on the bag.

What I’ll be carrying:
- 2 chic carry wristlets for diapers
- tons of snacks (toddler needs options)
- sippy (sometimes 2)
- my stuff - keys, cell & wristlet
- Sugar Booger Dirty & Clean Bags w/ changes of clothes
- spit up rag
- blanket

Any suggestions on what to get? I’d like it to be able to hang over the back of my stroller (P&T Sport) and not be too bulky even when stuffed to the gills. I’ve also thought about having 2 bags - one that stays in the car and the other for “every day” use. The only thing with that, is how do you decide what stays and what goes?

Sick

Posted by cassie on Thursday, 29 May, 2008 @ 5:00 pm

I tell ya - it’s the pits having a house full of sick people, especially since the only one really able to take medication to help speed his healing doesn’t like to. We’ve been laid low this week and are finally recuperating but are by no means there yet. How terrible to be due any day with #2 and not be able to breathe. I’m praying he holds off until we all feel better!

Price of Gas Slowing You Down?

Posted by cassie on Wednesday, 28 May, 2008 @ 8:38 pm

I’m not one to normally go on and on about gas prices and we feel the pinch like everyone else. Although since Nick works from home our gas bill is pretty much all me and my driving. But dang! I haven’t filled up for a week since my car was in the shop and today for premium gas it was a whopping 4.29$ a gallon! Holy smokes!

Luckily I already do pretty smart driving by combining errands, plotting my trips, etc. but this is getting out of hand. I’ve already been hit by the dementia that is spreading across America from the increase in prices on everything.

You see, about 2 weeks ago I posted a free curb alert ad on Craigslist and made it very obvious it was first come, first serve and that everything was located in front of the garage so my community couldn’t get upset that it was at the curb. The result? Someone had the nerve to come back later that day or days later - not sure on that - and STEAL my brand-new to me double bike trailer that we had just purchase for $45 on craigslist about a week prior to that. Now you say - “why was it outside” and “why was it near the stuff you were giving away”. Well, it was outside because the stuff I was giving away needed to leave before it could go in the garage and Nick needed to move his car so I could pull the bike trailer in. And it was no-where near the stuff given away. It was on the side of my house, far away from the free items. And frankly, it wasn’t noted as a free item in the post so WTH did someone have to come and steal from me for my good deed?!

I’m still peeved that it happened and makes me realize that doing good deeds for other people just winds up biting me in the butt. From now on, I’ll donate all my stuff to Goodwill or put it in the trash. That way Goodwill can over price my items and sell them to people or it can just fill up a landfill that much faster :( Sucks, huh?

Pampers Points

Posted by cassie on Saturday, 24 May, 2008 @ 7:59 pm

Diapers are obviously on my mind these days….

I just added my latest Gifts to Grow coupon code to the pampers website and am up to a whopping 69 points! P&G recently did some revamping of this program and I for one am thrilled with the results. They updated the “gifts” that are available to something that is actually useful. For 125 points you can now get a coupon for a package of jumbos and for all those sleepless nights for 100 points you can get a Starbucks gift card. They still have books, some toys and pictures at various point levels also.
