Is Your Toddler Crafty?

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Arts & Crafts for Toddlers, Sales, Coupons & Contests

Then use the back-to-school time to stock up on great deals on crayons, markers, paints, etc! I’ve been combing the isles and have picked up some great deals on the Crayola twistable crayons (AWESOME!!!), washable markers, finger paints, etc. These are all going in the art box in the closet to be pulled out when his current batch doesn’t hold any luster anymore. We’ll just continue to rotate them around and they’ll always be exciting then ;)

Also great for leaving at the in-laws, packing in their take-a-long box, etc.

Borders Book *Steal*

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Sales, Coupons & Contests

Borders is currently offering a $5 off coupon (that can be used per item) and if you select shipping to the store it’s free! So ATM I have 27 items in my cart and am only paying $15 for it because I selected several books that were over $5 so I have to pay the difference. Boo hoo. It’s works on Music too so I picked up some new CDs for the kids. You could go wild with ordering a ton of stuff but I figure I should not be a complete jerk or I could get at least 500 items for nothing.

Great for birthday, Christmas and potty training shopping! Here’s an article explaining it better but I just HAD to share this awesome deal. So run girls!

Petunia Pickle Bottom Sale

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Gear, Sales, Coupons & Contests

Regent’s Secret is having a PPB sale starting 7.28.08! Woo-hoo!! While checking my email I learned about this sale from one of my yahoo bag boards. Gotta love those women, they are ON it!

It’s on www.regentssecret.com – it’s a members only site – you have to have a referral to join. There’s no weird catch or anything. Basically members get reward points for the people the refer. Anywho, it’s legit and they have Petunia Pickle Bottom bags on sale until 7.30.08. To join please use my referral info so I can get credit, which is funktea _ 420 @hotmail . com (no spaces).

Info about PPB from their site: “Born out of a desire to bring style and sophistication to the world of modern parenting, Petunia Pickle Bottom was founded in 2000 by a trio of people who pay homage to the chic mommy who makes a statement without saying a word. Plucking the name from childhood (the head designer’s father coined the phrase when she was a little one) Petunia Pickle Bottom has become more than a silly sentimental name, it has become the brand to have.

A perennial exhibit of bold lines, daring colors and darling designer details, Petunia Pickle Bottom was created for the steadfast sophisticate inside every woman. Silk brocades, hand-woven tweeds, plush chenilles, intricate cut velvets, and exquisitely detailed embroidery—every one a Petunia hallmark, and every one an expression of motherhood’s myriad facets.”

Kelty Journey Sale

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Gear, Sales, Coupons & Contests

keltyjourneyI was browsing a bag site this morning for no other reason than they are having their annual Summer 20% off sale (use coupon code Summer2008) and well, I LOVE bags. I came across the Kelty Journey in the sales section and thought I’d pass the deal onto my readers. I’m not really big into carting the baby around on my back to go hiking or out and about – I’d rather use the AT stroller but I have several friends that do. They rave over their Keltys.

This one is on sale for $155.45 + free shipping. Check it out here.

Go Green with a Daily Deal Website

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Sales, Coupons & Contests

I was surfing along – imagine that ;) and came across a daily deal website that features only green items! I thought this was not only a neat niche but also a good way to support being kinder to our environment.

Today’s feature is a 10 pocket hemp bag, which incidentally would work nicely for a diaper bag if you were inclined, for $39.99 + shipping. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow’s deal is. All the other daily deal sites I’m come across lately have treated me very well so I imagine this one will too. Click here to see the other sites I mean.

Check the site out for yourself here.

Coupons to your Cell Phone

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Sales, Coupons & Contests

Slightly off topic but since a lot of parents use coupons to stretch their budget, especially now I thought I’d pass this along.

I recently came across a website for the coupon-aholics amongst us. You can now get coupons delivered to your cell phones via text messages (applicable fees will apply of course). Just show the coupon to your check out clerk and they’ll enter in the appropriate code. You can text them to stop the service at any time. For all intents and purposes it is free, just texting fees apply it seems.

Britax Car Seats 15% Off

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Sales, Coupons & Contests, Tips, Hints & Other Stuff

This is almost like a pre-fall sale, but great if you need to buy a seat now. I can’t say for sure what the prices will be but based on what I’ve read you can expect to pay ~ $20 more for a seat at this time than what you will in the fall sale. Again, this is based on conjuncture and what the prices were during the spring sale, which I unfortunately missed.

* I’m still in the process of compiling my list, so I’ll add the websites & prices tomorrow.

And, of course, this couldn’t come at a better time for me since I need to get a new seat for one of the boys. I’m still on the fence if I should upgrade Anthony to a Marathon and give the Roundabout to Vince or if I should just buy another Roundabout. I guess part of my decision will be based on price :D Based on FL law, I could go either way with using a booster seat when the time comes. HOWEVER (hold your horses before you blow a gasket) based on my personal beliefs – they will be in boosters!

According to Florida`s car seat law (http://www.dot.state.fl.us/safety/HighwaySafetyGrantProgram):

  • All children 5 years of age or younger must be properly restrained no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle.
  • Children through age 3 must be secured in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer’s integrated child safety seat.
  • For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used.

Therefore, under the Florida car seat law, children over 3 years old may ride in a vehicle using a standard adult safety belt. (ACK!) The problem with this (according to advocates) is that most children under 80 pounds are too small for an adult seat belt. Adult seat belts can actually be dangerous to children because the belt cuts directly across their neck instead of snug across the center of their shoulder. This can lead to serious injury or even death in the event of an accident.

So what`s a parent to do? Car seat safety advocates recommend one of the following guidelines:

  • The National Highway Safety Administration (NHSA) recommends that children over 40 pounds use a belt-positioning booster seat until they are 8 years old, unless they are 4`9″ or taller.
  • The American Academy of Pediatricians goes a bit further and advocates for booster seat use until the child reaches 4`9″ in height and is between 8 and 12 years of age.
