We Remember

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Ramblings

Today is a hard day in our household as the horror still hasn’t left us on what happened years ago on 9-1-1. In honor of all those that have lost their lives and those that are left behind to carry-on without you, we bow our heads in memory. We love you and thank you for everything that you have done.

Awesome Publix Trip

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Ramblings, Sales, Coupons & Contests

I won’t bore you with my list of purchases (mainly because I’m too lazy to type it all) but I hit the big score today. It took me 2 hours with 2 kids (2 and 2 mo) in tow but woo-hoo!

I think the best deal I pulled off was using a $3 (or was it $5 I can’t remember now) Huggies diaper coupon (BJs) and $3 Huggies wipe coupon (BJs) w/ the Publix $5 off coupon. Or maybe it was using the Albertson’s B1G2 free on the Spare Ribs…

Saved: $144.76
Spent: $119

The best I’ve ever done and made me really glad I spent a little elbow grease this morning getting all my coupons in order.

Prepared Food Delivery for New Parents

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Food & Recipes, Getting Ready for Baby

turkey-dinnerI am surrounded by people that are pregnant or just had a baby these days. Yes, I’m one of them. So what do you get for parents that have everything? Ya know, either it’s a second kiddo or maybe they (or their family) just went nuts already. Prepared meals!! You can never go wrong with food.

I found a great site when I went searching to send something to upstate NY. There aren’t a lot of large chain restaurants, etc up there. Drum roll…. Schwan’s. They have a good selection, and a well-organized, detailed site. They break it down by price per serving, and also offer 3 different delivery options. There is a variety of price points and are rather economical IMO. I was able to send 6 or 7 meals for $45, which I’m rather happy with so I can’t wait to hear about the results.  If you use coupon code MC you can save 5% on online orders now thru Oct 26, 2008.

If I hear good things then this will be my go-to present for awhile.

RME

Refer A Friend using Revolution Money Exchange

I just received my RevolutionMoneyExchange (RME) card in the mail yesterday. It is similar to a debit card and you can use it a variety of retailers. Check out their site for the complete list. The cool thing? If you use your card 3 times within 90 days of activating your card they’ll give you $5 for each $25 you spend in one transaction. Not a bad gig if you ask me. You can link it to your checking account to transfer money over and make back $15 of what you spent. I like it :D

If you’ve never heard of RME, it is very similar to PayPal but without the fees so check it out. Do me a favor and say I referred you – cassie @ nouturn . com.

Some of the stores that are accepting RME cards are: CVS (woo-hoo ECBS and $5 back will make this one a hit); Walgreens (RR + $5 back. score again); Barnes & Noble; BJ’s; and Kohl’s. That’s just a handful of stores that I know a lot of mamas shop at, or at least this mama does!

Outgrown Clothes and Lost Receipts

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Tips, Hints & Other Stuff

If you shop anything like I do, then you have clothes for up to 2 or 3 sizes larger than what your child currently wears. I try to hit the seasonal sales and rake in the savings where I can. I also use this opportunity to stock up on potential presents for baby showers, birthdays, etc. Now the dilemma – what to do with all of those receipts Yea…yea store them somewhere BUT WHERE?

Here’s an idea – staple the receipt to the tag of the clothes until you are sure the new clothes will fit or be used! (Thanks to the June edition of Parents magazine for this idea.) Especially helpful for all of those newborn clothes that your darlings outgrow so quickly. If you miss the return/exchange time frame at least this will be helpful in selling the clothes on Craigslist or eBay.

Yankee Candle Savings

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Sales, Coupons & Contests, Tips, Hints & Other Stuff

Who doesn’t love candles from Yankee Candle? But, of course, in these trying times with the economy in the pooper and people losing their jobs left and right it is hard to justify spending hard earned cash on “extras”. There is a way to save a bit of cash though, if you just have to have that candle fix! Go to www.yankeecandle.com/coupons and sign up to receive a $10 off coupon good towards your next $25 purchase. If you time it just right with their seasonal sales of B1G1 50% off or buy a large candle and one tealight you’ll get a really great discount. Even a great idea for a present for the candle fan in your circle.

New Coffee Joint to Test Out

Posted by: cassie  /  Category: Things to Do

A direct quote from one of my mommy groups… Nick and I will have to check it out since we’re coffee junkies.

“I was just in this great coffee & ice cream house, called Monkey Paws, located in the new Publix plaza at Hwy 70 & Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Great place! They have big cozy leather couches, cable tv, free WiFi, great coffee, ice cream and the best chocolate chip & banana muffins I’ve ever tasted. The owner’s, April & Monroe Ranceful, are super nice and very interested in getting involved w/ the area mom’s groups and hosting an ice-cream social. The store phone is: 941-727-1591… Their website is: www.monkeypaws.com.”

I’ll post a review after we’ve been. I can’t wait!
